The sparkly image above is 'Chinese Lanterns' (Margaret Tarrant (1888-1959) http://www.medici.co.uk/ but it's the liripipe that caught my eye; the long-tailed hood so familiar from fairy tales with medieval imagery.
I have a liripipe my daughter made for me. Not just wonderfully mysterious but highly practical; the liripipe wraps around your neck when a chill wind blows. And these days I figure we need all the help we can get to invite magic and whimsy..
This headdress conjures other realms
Oak and Ash and mighty Elms
Days when forests clothed the land
We with Nature hand-in-hand
Face of mystery in the hood
would that anybody could
step into that mystery realm
Meet the tiller at the helm
Liripipe of bygone age
I the wearer, I the Sage
Play the part and feel the drift
Veils and cloaks and shadows lift
